New Xbench 3.0 integration: Smartcat!
Posted: January 25th, 2018 under ApSIC Xbench.
We’re pleased to announce that, starting with Xbench build 1419, you have available a very cool integration with Smartcat.
With this integration, you can do the following:
- When editing a document in Smartcat, click the Xbench Chrome extension icon to instantly load the Smartcat file in a Xbench project.
- Select one or more documents in the Smartcat workspace and click the Xbench Chrome extension to instantly load all documents selected in a Xbench project.
- Select one issue in Xbench, right-click, choose Edit Segment (Ctrl+E) and Smartcat will open the document right at that segment.
To get this functionality, you need the following:
- The Xbench Chrome Extension. This extension will make the Xbench icon appear in Chrome when you are working with Smartcat.
- The One Tab Chrome Extension. This extension will avoid creating a new tab if the Smartcat document is already open in Chrome.
We hope that you enjoy working with this new integration! As always, if you run into any issue or have any suggestion, do not hesitate to contact us.

Xbench 3.0 build 1395 released
Posted: April 24th, 2017 under ApSIC Xbench.
We’re happy to announce that we released Xbench 3.0 build 1395. The new build can be downloaded here.
This build includes support for some additional formats such as memoQ Adriatic, memoQ 2-column rtf files, Dejavu alignment files and Qt Linguist PhraseBooks.
The Xbench Conector for Memsource now features support for 2-factor authentication and can also connect to other Memsource servers.
Also the Google Translator Toolkit support has been improved with detection of 100% matches and ICE matches, which allows you to exclude them from QA if they are not part of your scope of work. Be sure to have the Xbench Chrome Extension, and the Xbench Chrome Extension for GTT updated to the latest version (if you have them already installed, Chrome should take care of this automatically).
The new build also includes a number of usability improvements and bug fixes. You can see a more comprehensive list in the change log. Honda hs520 repair manual.
We hope you enjoy using Xbench 3.0 build 1395. If you run into any issues or have suggestions, please contact Support.
Xbench Whitelisted Domain Mode now available for more than one account with the same email domain
Posted: December 19th, 2016 under ApSIC Xbench.
As you probably know, our Domain Mode licenses allow you to cover users for a @domain.com email domain with either a Full Domain Mode license or a Whitelisted Domain Mode license.
Until now, since we only allowed one Domain Mode license per email domain, if you were an LSP with several teams in several countries, you either had to enable Full Domain Mode to cover all teams worldwide or configure one of the teams with a Whitelisted Domain Mode license and the rest of the teams with the Classic license.
Starting today, you can write us to request Whitelisted Domain Mode for each of the teams, as long as the team in question meets the requirement of a history of 10 years purchased for the account.
New Xbench Chrome Extension for Google Translator Toolkit (GTT)!
Posted: July 12th, 2016 under ApSIC Xbench.
With the release last week of support for Google Translator Toolkit (GTT) in our Xbench Chrome Extension, we immediately received two feature requests:
- Include several GTT documents in the same Xbench QA session, not just the current one
- Use Edit Source (Ctrl+E) in Xbench to go right at the segment in GTT
We’re happy to announce that we are now releasing a new GTT-specific Chrome Extension with exactly these features, the new ApSIC Xbench Entension for GTT.
For more details, see the announcement in our Xbench Forum.

Posted: July 4th, 2016 under ApSIC Xbench.
We’re happy to announce that we’ve just released Xbench 3.0 build 1369, which adds support for Google Translator Toolkit (GTT).
The support for GTT also requires the latest Xbench Chrome Extension (version 1.0.6).
Once you have the latest Xbench 3.0 and Xbench Chrome Extension installed on your machine, the steps to instantly load your current GTT document in Xbench for QA are:
- Open the Google Translator Toolkit document in Chrome. You will notice that the Xbench Chrome Extension icon will become pink.
- Click the Xbench Chrome Extension icon.
- Double-click the .xbp file that is downloaded. Xbench will load with the segments for the GTT document in Xbench so that you can run a QA as usual.
We hope you like this new integration. If you have any issues or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Download this sample .sdlxliff file (Trados file)
We have prepared a sample file just for the sake of this demo. You can download the sample file from here. The file type is .sdlxliff (Trados file). If you don’t have Trados, that is still okay you will not need it in this demo. (But as a professional translator it is highly recommended you do have Trados…)

L1 ultramaximizer free mac. The result is pretty much straight forward.
As you can see XBench will list up all the errors it found in the file. The errors are listed by Error Description with the source and target segments next to it so that you can check what is the actual issue.
In this example the errors are of 5 types:
– Untranslated Segment
– Inconsistency in Target
– Inconsistency in Source
– Numeric Mismatch
– Key Term Mismatch

One neat feature is that by clicking and selecting an error segment XBench actually highlights what could be wrong there.
Let’s go through each one of them:
– Untranslated Segment: obviously the segment has no translation, i.e. the target segment is empty.
– Inconsistency in Target: same source segment has been translated differently.
– Inconsistency in Source: different source segments have been translated the same.
– Numeric Mismatch: numbers in source and target do not match.
– Key Term Mismatch: because we have selected the “Key Terms” feature XBench picks up keywords and make sure the translation is consistent across the document.
See how XBench picked up the word “keyterm” (which doesn’t exists actually, yes 🙂 ) as a Key Term? XBench has spotted that keyterm should be translated sa “mot-clé” but it can’t find it in the target segment as it was replaced by “mot-clef”.
Important to note also that the first line shows in which file and at what segment the error is (the number after the file name in parenthesis is the corresponding segment number).

How to add a dictionary in XBench for spell-checking?
It is very simple to add dictionaries in XBench. This will be necessary if you want to perform a spell-check on the bilingual file.
Here is how:
In the “Tools” menu select “Spell-Checking Dictionaries”, select the right language then click on the “Install” button. That’s it!
You can run again the QA, but this time with the spell-check on.

You have performed your first XBench translation check. This is a powerful tool and should always be use as final check before delivery. Â But never forget, this is just a mechanical check and cannot judge the overall quality of the translation, it only informs on consistency etc. and helps “debugging” your work.
